Jessica Alba is well aware of her sex symbol status. How could she not be, when she's made the Maxim Hot 100 list every year it's been in existence, from 2000 to 2011?
But now that she has 3-year-old daughter Honor and another baby on the way, the 30-year-old actress is getting real about her body. "I can't ever get down to the weight I was before I had Honor," she admits in the August issue of Allure magazine. "My body's just different. The jeans just sort of zip up differently, and things hang differently. It's a miracle what happens, but you definitely are different afterward. Unless you're Gisele."
But unlike that Brazilian supermodel, whose nude photo fetched $193,000 at a Christie's auction in 2008, Alba has never been willing to disrobe for the camera -- not entirely anyway. For film, TV and photo shoots, she has always drawn the line at a bikini.
"At least I'm still covered," she says. "I'm wearing as much as a bathing suit. It's not like I'm naked. I'm not terribly comfortable with being in a bikini, but covering up my genitals is different than not covering up my genitals, at the end of the day. I do see a difference in that, to put it really frankly."
In fact, fans may remember the heated exchange she had with Hugh Hefner in 2006, after Playboy put a photo of a bikini-clad Alba on its cover of the March issue without her consent. (A cover photo implies that there will be nude shots inside, which was not the case.) Alba demanded that the issue be yanked from the stands; Hef placated her by issuing a public apology and donating money to her favorite charities.
Now that baby No. 2 is on the way, it seems Alba has even less reason to strip down -- though she says that becoming a mom has made her feel more comfortable with her sexuality. "It wasn't something I embraced until I had my daughter. I saw how incredible and amazing it is to be a woman and to be able to create a life," she tells Allure. "There's a reason why certain areas of the body are desirable -- because it all leads to reproduction. There's a science behind it all. It's not just to sell whatever you're selling on a billboard or a magazine or a movie."
We're not sure that Maxim's Hot 100 is concerned with the science part, but we have no doubt Alba will be a fixture on the list for years to come.
