The time has finally arrived for viewers of The Vampire Diaries to see Elena (Nina Dobrev) as a vampire when the hit show returns for its long-awaited season premiere.

On last season's shocking finale, Elena died in a car accident, but she wasn't really dead since she had vampire blood in her system and she was now GASP! — a vampire!
When tonight's season premiere "Growing Pains" opens, Elena wakes up and horrified to find out that she now has to go through the painful transition of being a vampire. Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) are desperate to get Elena out of this, and Damon is too upset that this even happened in the first place.
