'Act Of Valor' Commands Box Office With $24.7M Debut
Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd's 'Wanderlust' and Amanda Seyfried's 'Gone' both flopped.

A group of real-life Navy SEALs stormed the box office this weekend, kicking overall theater grosses into high gear for the eighth consecutive week. "Act of Valor" commanded the #1 spot with a $24.7 million debut, which contributed to an overall box-office number up roughly 23 percent from the same period last year.
"Tyler Perry's Good Deeds" was #2 with $16 million during its first weekend in theaters. Meanwhile, the Judd Apatow-produced comedy "Wanderlust" starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd and the Amanda Seyfried thriller "Gone" both flopped.
"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" was #3 with $13.4 million for a three-week total of $76.7 million. Last weekend's #1 movie, "Safe House," dropped to #4 with $11.4 million for a $98.1 million total. Next week it will likely become the fourth Denzel Washington movie to cross the $100 million mark. "The Vow" rounded out the top five with $10 million for a three-week total of $103 million.
A departure from the filmmaker's "Madea" movies and broader ensemble comedies, "Good Deeds" had the second worst opening for a Tyler Perry film. ("Daddy's Little Girls" opened with $11.2 million in 2007.) Like most of his movies, "Good Deeds" was not a hit with critics, either. "It's indisputable that Perry has improved as a filmmaker throughout his meteoric rise to success, but that growth only brings into clearer focus the deficiencies he has yet to outgrow," wrote Box Office Magazine's Todd Gilchrist.
Apatow also suffered the second lowest debut for a film with his name attached, with "Wanderlust" beating only his 2007 "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story." "Wanderlust" opened with $6.6 million, while "Gone" trailed behind with just $5 million.
Best Picture winner "The Artist" did the best of all of the Oscar contenders at the box office over the weekend, picking up another $3 million and adding an additional 158 theaters for a domestic total of $31.9 million. "The Descendants" made another $2.2 million for a $78.5 million total. "Hugo" made $1.6 million (in significantly fewer theaters) for a total of $69.4 million. "The Help," "Midnight in Paris," "Moneyball" and "The Tree of Life" are all available for home viewing; "War Horse" is due on Blu-ray and DVD on April 3.
"Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace" crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office thanks to the recent 3-D re-release, making the first of George Lucas' "Star Wars" prequels the 10th-highest-grossing film of all time, not counting for inflation. "The Phantom Menace" passed "The Dark Knight" over the weekend.
Other movies that have crossed the $1 billion mark include "Avatar" ($2.7 billion), "Titanic" ($1.8 billion; soon to receive a 3-D re-release as well), "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" ($1.3 billion), "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" ($1.1 billion), "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" ($1.1 billion), "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ($1.06 billion), "Toy Story 3" ($1.06 billion), "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" ($1.04 billion), and the 2010 "Alice in Wonderland" ($1.02 billion).

It's easy to argue that upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games (in theaters March 23) is the first chapter in a movie franchise that will go on to rival The Twilight Saga in popularity. Both are based on beloved book franchises with passionate fanbases, star relatively unknown stars and have presale ticket grosses that rival some movies' entire box office takes.

Why Rooney Mara Needs To Read Hunger Games (A Katniss-Lisbeth Cage Match!)
Oscars 2012: My Night At Hollywood's Biggest Show
Brad and Angelina's wedding plan, talking to George Clooney and 3-D desserts are a few things we'll remember about this year's show.

On the red carpet for Sunday's Academy Awards
Photo: MTV News
So I guess this means the 2013 Academy Awards season has begun? I jest (kinda). But it seems like this past awards season lasted forever. I mean, it kind of did. Legit contenders had emerged by the time the Cannes film festival began last May. By now, I'm pretty sure the stars of "The Artist" are sick of the sounds of their own voices ... I mean, if they had spoken in the film. You know what I mean.
Last night was a fine sendoff to another fun awards season. I had a blast covering my fourth Oscars red carpet. It's always a true privilege to be a tiny part of something I've been obsessed with since I was old enough to watch TV. One of the true pleasures of doing the awards season circuit for MTV News is getting a chance to talk to some of the folks I've worshiped from afar for years, and this go-round was no different. Last night, Christopher Plummer, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh and Nick Nolte all stopped to chat with me on the carpet. The 14-year-old Josh is very impressed.
And then there are the newbies. Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain, even Shailene Woodley (unjustly looked over by the Academy) all were red-carpet regulars over the last few months and will surely be for many years to come.
It's hard to sum up a nearly four-hour red carpet in a few paragraphs, but here are a few select moments I'll look back on with a smile from the 84th Academy Awards red carpet.
George Clooney gets everyone excited. Perhaps the most embarrassing moment for me last night came when "Muppets" Best Song winner Bret McKenzie mentioned Clooney was nearby and I got embarrassingly excited. Like, too excited for a heterosexual man. Oh well, that guy is charming. Just take a look at our chat together.
Choose your questions for Angelina Jolie carefully. Of course, it was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who arrived last on the Oscars red carpet. Side note: Strangely, Christopher Lloyd arrived right around the same time. Anyway, Angelina was breezing by so the talk was quick, but damn, that lady is a movie star (I know, breaking news). She told me she thinks of her mom (now deceased) when she thinks of the Oscars since her Academy Award win was such a proud moment for her. Then, of course, I broke the mood by asking her if she and Brad planned their wedding to be a similar size as the Oscars. With a laugh she was on her way. Never got around to asking her and Brad to adopt me.
Wolfgang Puck serves food in 3-D. Who's been going to the Oscars for 18 years and is always the most popular guy at the Governors Ball? Why, celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck of course. He was my first interview of the night and might have been my favorite. At least the oddest. I think we also had our first fight as Wolfgang explained to me that he was serving a 3-D dessert this year while wearing those silly old-school glasses. I insisted all desserts are in 3-D. There was tension. And begrudging respect. I think.
You too can be nominated for an Oscar! OK, just to clarify, I'm not saying it's easy to get an Oscar nomination. But when an honest-to-goodness friend of yours gets one, it rocks your world a bit. Anything is possible! In this case I'm talking about Andrew Bowler, an old acquaintance from years past, who made it to the big show with his wife Gigi Causey for their great short film "Time Freak." Seeing Andrew enjoy his well-deserved big moment on the carpet was surreal and awesome. The movies are all about seeing dreams come to life, right?
The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Keep it locked at MTV.com for updates on the night's big winners and the best red-carpet fashion.

No hay más Led Zeppelin
By

¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?

'Twilight' Vs. 'Hunger Games': How Do They Compare?
In 'Twilight' Tuesday, Josh Hutcherson says he understands the connection, but 'the challenges the characters face are very different.'
By Kara Warner

Disclaimer: This is not a story about warring fanbases, nor is it intended to instigate a fan war. This is about how the smashing success of "The Twilight Saga" has led to Hollywood's search for another young-adult mega-franchise and the media's tendency to compare every teen-targeted film to it.
"Twilight" is its own magical, mysterious beast, the overwhelming success of which we will very likely not see replicated anytime soon. While there are indeed similarities between the Stephenie Meyer-created behemoth and other successful franchises like "Harry Potter," they are very, very different.
The latest "Twilight"-vs.-X conversation features the highly anticipated "Hunger Games" movie. In my opinion, there are only two comparable elements: They are both based on very popular young-adult novels and feature two romantic interests for the female protagonist.
MTV News recently posed the comparison question to "Hunger Games" stars Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence, who both said they understand the link.
"I get why people make the connections, because it's a very popular book, especially amongst young people," Hutcherson said. "However, I think it's an entirely different world, and the challenges the characters face are very different."
Those of us who have read both series — and "Potter," for that matter — likely agree with Hutcherson and know they are completely different stories. As long as the greater population at large can accept and understand these differences, I am completely OK with the many comparisons. Just don't lump the two together for the sake of convenience.
The best thing I've seen so far in the "Twilight" and "Hunger Games" comparisons is the fact that Edward Cullen himself, Robert Pattinson, has read "Games" and is just as excited as we are to see the film — in addition to "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," of course.
"I sort of came across it last year, and I didn't realize it was the most enormous thing in the world," Pattinson told Entertainment Weekly last year. "It's good! It will be a good movie."
Now if I can just get a slightly out-of-touch colleague to stop harassing me with "But where are the sparkly vampires?" questions every time a new "Hunger Games" trailer or teaser premieres, I'll feel as though we've made some headway on the subject.
What do you think of the "Twilight" and "Hunger Games" comparisons? Tweet me @karawarner with your thoughts and ideas for future "Twilight" Tuesday columns!

Khloe Kardashian Talks Sex Swing, Baby Possibility
Making her way back home to Los Angeles, Khloe Kardashian flew into LAX Airport from Dallas on Monday night (February 6).
The E! reality star made the trip to do a little promotional work ahead of the February 19th season two premiere of her spinoff show "Khloe & Lamar," which airs at 10PM on E!.
Talking with E! News about the first episode, Khloe revealed that the footage shows her efforts of installing a sex swing atop her and Lamar's bed due to the fact that he seemed disinterested in the love-making department.
"Having an NBA lockout, I think it really made him depressed," Kardashian said of the situation. "And that affected us in other areas, which I didn't realize until later. I was trying to overcompensate, like entertain him more. I was always trying to make him happy. I would think, 'This would made him happy.'"
Khloe also threw out an interesting statement, possibly hinting at something she already knows, as she told E!, "Dallas might bring me a baby," while failing to go into further detail.

Madonna's Super Bowl Show: Halftime Fumbles
Queen of Pop slips and M.I.A. flashes the bird during performance.

During the 13 minutes Madonna took over Super Bowl XLVI for her highly anticipated halftime show, there were plenty of surprise cameos, high-tech stage lights and, of course, some of the biggest classics in pop music.
But even though the Queen of Pop's glitzy show Sunday night (February 5) appeared to run smoothly, the over-the-top theatrics might have shadowed some of the fumbles. Take a look at the list of onstage slip-ups MTV News caught during the pop performer's set.
Madonna's Almost Fall(s)
It was only a few minutes into the show, but Madonna lost her balance and almost fell as she jumped around the flashing bleachers with her dancers during her performance of "Music." She also teetered a few minutes later while getting up after getting down with LMFAO. Fortunately, the singer found her ground and demonstrated how a professional handles a little performance slipup, continuing without missing a beat.
M.I.A.'s Finger Flash
Madonna wouldn't be Madonna without even a little controversy, but this time, it wasn't even her fault. During the performance of the pop titan's new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin," M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj appeared as sideline cheerleaders to spit their rap contribution to the pop gem. Known for her rebellious attitude, M.I.A. flashed her middle finger for a split second that has already fueled headlines all over the Internet.
Backing Track
While Madge is getting lots of love from celebrities, there are many who are criticizing the Queen of Pop for what appears to be a mostly backing-track performance. However, lip-synching isn't unfamiliar territory for the Super Bowl. Back in 2009, the championship game's producer Ricky Minor told the Associated Press that he requested Jennifer Hudson lip-synch her rendition of the national anthem to limit the chances of possible mistakes.
Did you catch any other fumbles during Madge's performance? Tell us below!
